• Happy Spanish Language Day!

If you read my article about the United Nation’s creation of French Language Day, you may remember that my oldest daughter has been studying French for several years and that my husband studied the language for a while years ago. You may also remember that Spanish is one of the other official languages that was honored with a special “holiday” with the hope that people will become more aware of the importance of learning other languages. What I didn’t share in that piece was that my youngest daughter decided to take Spanish when she started high school a few years ago, a move that made me (someone who wishes she’d…

  • Celebrate French Language Day

Happy French Language Day! French Language Day was established in 2010 by the United Nation’s Department of Public Information to honor multilingualism, cultural diversity, and the equal usage of its six official languages. There are also special days for the other official languages–English, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and Russian. But, due to the fact that my oldest daughter has been studying French for six years (and my husband also studied the language for a while), I thought it was fitting to set aside time today to consider how families could celebrate French Language Day. • Unleash Your Inner Artist

I am a big fan of activities that allow individuals to be artistic. Why? Because it is through those expressions of artistry that we experience productivity, entertainment, and cultural enrichment, and possibly even have the opportunity to impact other people in a positive way. This is why I felt compelled to make a post encouraging parents to identify activities that will permit them to unleash their inner artist. Do you regularly set aside time to be artistic? If you answered “yes” to this question,…

Whether you’re dealing with cold temperatures where you live, struggling to balance work assignments, going through a difficult parenting phase, or being stressed out by something else, some time away from your regular routine would probably benefit you greatly. However, getting away isn’t always easy. In fact, you may even assume you’ll need to have a lot of time and money set aside to even consider taking a vacation. Well, I’m posting this today to encourage you to dispel that way of thinking and instead join me in celebrating National Plan for Vacation Day. National Plan for Vacation Day…

  • Happy National Florida Day!

Did you know that today is National Florida Day? If you’ve visited Florida before–or live there–you’ve seen firsthand at least a bit of what makes it a special place. Thanks to the presence of notable entertainment and tourism options, the tropical climate, and diverse ethnic groups who call the state home, it has a unique and fascinating culture. I‘ve been to Florida twice, but I only had a chance to see the Orlando metro area both times. I went for the first time back in the late 90s when my husband went there for a conference and I accompanied him. We went to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and MGM Studios…
